Wooden Keepsakes Box

You can never have enough storage space and this wooden box is a super cute way to store your keepsakes along with any bits and bobs. Any dollar store usually stocks wooden boxes that you can use for this project. I picked mine up from Dollars and Sense for under $10. If you don't already have a wood burning tool Bunnings is the place to pick one up for around $40. For the final touches Spotlight sells an array of rub on transfers by Kaisercraft.

What you will need:

- Wooden Box

- Wood Stain

- White Paint

- Wood Burning Tool

- Sandpaper or Sanding Tool

- Rub on Words

1/ Firstly give your box a coat of wood stain to give it a nice rich colour. This will allow the colour to peak through the white wash.

2/ Dilute some white paint with water to use as a white wash effect. Ensure the wood stain is dry before you apply a coat of white wash. Using a brush or a cloth apply a coat of paint thinly over the box. Don't worry if you miss any spots this will only enhance the distressed look.

3/ Give the box a sand applying more pressure in some areas to allow the woodstain to come through giving a distressed look.

4/ Draw your pattern on the top lid, ensure it is easy enough to trace over with your wood burning tool. Now burn over your outlined pattern with your wood burning toold. If you make a mistake thats ok just sand over it and start again.

5/ Once you are happy with your design give it a light sand all over. For the finishing touch I have rubbed on some transfer quotes that you can pick up from any craft store.
