Watercolour Novelty Peg Magnets

My fridge is covered in photos, holiday magnets, cute magnets and inspirational quotes. So I've combined the best of both. A super cute magnet to display a daily inspirational quote. Alternatively it can be used to organise your fridge. Just name each peg with a useful header such as To Do, Urgent, Done, Shopping List etc I also use these watercolour pegs on my desk as display holders for photos or again inspirational quotes.

I had never actually come across these large novelty pegs before until the other day in a dollar store. They are about $2 and found in the craft isle. If you can't find these large novelty pegs why not just use the standard wooden peg found in every dollar store or supermarket. Gold leaf foil should be in every crafters supplies but if you don't have it yet then just head to your local Dollars and Sense store who will definitely have them for around $5 in the craft isle. Dollars and sense also stock photo magnet paper which is thin and won't protrude. Or if you need something more powerful they also stock the standard small round magnets. I used a self adhesive magnet strip from Office Works as I already had some leftover.

What you will need:

- Large Novelty Peg

- Gold Leaf Foil

- Glue

- Watercolour Paint

- White Acrylic Paint

- Magnet

1/ Paint a base coat of white acrylic paint on your peg. Be sure to remove the spring first so that you don't get any paint on it. Apply another coat if needed.

2/ Once completely dry apply your chosen watercolours. To create different patterns and textures leave areas white and apply sparingly to other areas. Or apply a lot to one area, as it dries it creates a different unique pattern. Apply as much or as little until you achieve your desired look.

3/ Once completely dry choose what you are going to use as the pegs title. I have painted 3 pegs to align on the fridge to read Live, Laugh, Love. Alternatively you can use organisational titles such as To Do, Urgent, Shopping List. Using carbon paper or free hand trace your word onto your peg.

4/ Using a paint brush or cotton tip apply glue to your outlined word. Gently press your gold leaf foil over the glue and allow to dry. Once it is completely dry then you can use a stiff brush to gently brush off any excess gold leaf foil to reveal your word.

5/ Finally if you want to protect your work apply a clear gloss. Reattach your springs.

6/ Now just adhere your magnet strips to the back of your peg. Applying them at the top and bottom for extra support.

Here they are used as fridge magnets
